Preparing Your Outboard Engine for Winter
Ensure your
outboard engine is ready for the cold season so you can enjoy hassle-free boating next year.
- Fuel Stabilizer - Add
Starbrite Star Tron Enzyme Fuel Treatment to your fuel to stabilize it and prevent breakdown and oxidation for up to a year. This product also prevents corrosion and gum buildup in the fuel system while lubricating injectors and carburetors.
- Engine Flushing - Run the engine until it reaches operating temperature using fresh water from Flush Muffs to flush out sand, silt, and salt.
- Descaling and Salt Deposit Removal - Operate the engine in a bucket or flushing bag with
Starbrite Descaling Engine Flush liquid in the cooling water, running it until it reaches normal temperature.
- Protective Coating - Spray
Starbrite Fogging Oil through the carburetors until the engine stops, leaving a protective coating on the internal surfaces.
- Engine Oil Change (4-Stroke Engines Only) - Change the engine oil using
Motul 4-Stroke Oil.
- Spark Plugs - Remove the spark plugs, spray
Starbrite Fogging Oil into the cylinders, and replace the plugs finger-tight.
- Waterproofing - Lightly spray the entire power head with a water-repellent oil like WD40.
- Re-greasing - Clean and re-grease the control linkages and grease points with the
appropriate lubricant.
- Gearbox Maintenance - Change the
gearbox oil.
- Anodes - Ensure your engine has a good set of
anodes for the start of the season. We offer dedicated sets for both propeller shafts and outdrives.
This should help keep your engine in top shape through the winter!
